This video focuses on various aspects of pump selection, application, and use, with four presenters.  60 minutes.

VOLUME III:  IRRIGATION OPERATION AND DESIGN
SIR120 Video
Three important aspects of irrigation operation and design are covered in this video:  basic hydraulics; wire sizing and selection; and valves and fittings.  100 minutes.

CONSERVATION TILLAGE
SIR130 Video
This color video presents successful ridge tillage and no-till agronomic cropping systems.  Contains information on the “cutting edge” of conservation tillage.  35 minutes.

GROUNDWATER AND AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS:
UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUES

SIR159 Video
This Video discusses the definition of groundwater, sources of contamination, the importance of proper handling and use of agricultural chemicals, and how farmers must continue to practice good stewardship.  17 minutes.

IN-ROW TILLAGE:  MAXIMUM YIELD FROM MINIMUM LABOR

INTEGRATED COMPOST SYSTEMS
SIR170 Video
This Video shows how to design, implement, and operate effective compost systems on an institutional scale.  As an alternative to costly landfill dumping of organic material, you’ll learn the basics of collection, design, site selection and numerous techniques that help to make composting both effective and profitable.  Compost operations visited include a golf and townhome retirement community, a city-wide composting system, a landfill, a worm farm, a farm waste system, and a university waste program.  29 minutes.

LAND DRAINAGE:  A DOMINANT CROPLAND NEED
SIR184 Video
Benefits of land drainage as well as an overview of the processes involved in establishing a land drainage system are addressed in this educational Video.  Different methods of surface and subsurface techniques are discussed in relation to the areas where they may be used.  Examples of each method are shown.  9 minutes.

LAND JUDGING
SIR186 Video
Introduces viewers to the basics of land judging.  Discusses land judging, land treatment determination, surface texture, slope, depth of soil, and land permeability.  Supplemental materials and teaching guides included.  37 min.

LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION, MAINTENANCE, AND TROUBLESHOOTING
SIR188 Video
Starting with an overview of the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, this Video details sprinkler heads and drip emitters, pipes and fittings, field control wires and hydraulic tubing, valves, backflow prevention devices, mainlines, and points of connection and controllers.  Utilizing a systematic approach to troubleshooting with the visual aid of a flowchart, students will then learn logical step-by-step methods to uncovering and controlling problems.  26 minutes.

NO-TILL AND RIDGE TILL FARMING
SIR204 Video
Farm operators are interested in new methods of reducing their planting costs.  This program presents five interviews with farmers involved in no-till and ridge till farming practices.  The planting operations and their equipment are viewed during the actual planting.  Benefits and results from farm operators and research are discussed throughout the program.  20 minutes.

PESTICIDES AND WATER QUALITY
SIR212 Video
Agricultural workers can play a critical role in preventing contaminating water with pesticides.  Deals with mixing and loading chemicals away from irrigation or other water sources, integrated pest management as an alternative to pesticides, proper and safe use of chemagation and much more.

PROTECTING OUR WATER QUALITY
SIR220 Video
Protecting our water quality is everyone’s business.  We all want and need clean, safe water for ourselves and our families.   Improper pesticide application, manure storage and application and fertilizer application can pollute surface and ground water.  Examines how to properly calibrate sprayers, store and apply manure and take a good soil sample with the emphasis on water quality.  Subjects include sprayer calibration and manure storage.  22 minutes.

SCIENCE OF BIOLOGICAL DECOMPOSITION: EFFECTIVE COMPOSTING
METHODS

SIR225 Video
A valuable teaching device for understanding what compost is and how it can be effectively produced.  Starting on the microscopic level, this program effectively teaches the science and practice of aerobic hot composting.  22 minutes.

SOIL
SIR229 Video
This four-lesson series provides students an introduction to soil science and how it applies to agriculture and urban development.

 I.   What Is It?  In answering that question, soil scientists have defined soil types in terms of particle sizes and characteristic layering.  Looks at glacial till and outwash, and regional variations in soil caused by climate, vegetation, topography, and drainage.  30 minutes.

II.   Chemistry and Fertilizer have complex interactions in the soil.  Only from the proper management of soil and fertilizer can the farmer be sure his crops are getting the elements they need for healthy growth.  30 minutes.

III.   Erosion and Pesticides are also prime factors in good soil management.  Distinguishes between the natural erosion and accelerated erosion brought on by cultivation of the land.  Discusses the various classes and actions of pesticides.  30 minutes.

IV.   Intensive Use can be a prime cause of soil pollution and degradation.  These uses include feedlots and urban growth.  The developer must take into consideration the type of soil he will be building on and also the effects the development will have on surrounding areas.  30 minutes.

SOIL TESTING
SIR273 Video
Emphasizes proper techniques in taking a soil sample, keeping field inventory records, and soil test analysis.  Gives recommendations to correct deficiencies, and shows how to understand soil test data.  17 minutes.

SOILS:  PROFILES AND PROCESSES
SIR277 Video
In this program we look at the way soils can vary even within a small area of a forest.  We examine a well-developed podzol in detail, taking samples from the center of each horizon, and then determining the organic content, studying soil acidity, analyzing mineral content, and measuring particle size distribution.  The measurements and analyses we have made enable us to understand why three soil profiles can be so very different in closely contiguous areas, with the same underlying sand, the same climate, and similar if not identical vegetation.  Thus we learn that certain differences are due not to soil types, but to different processes at work.  20 minutes.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
SIR286 Video
This brand new video is a fantastic teaching device for communicating concepts of sustainable agriculture.   You’ll see how sustainable agriculture is efficient in the use of natural resources, ecologically sound, economical socially responsible and humane.  Learn how to improve soil fertility and nutrient cycling, implement effective cover crops and trap crops, integrate farm animals, add compost to the soil, mulch, enhance soil structure by utilizing conservation tillage techniques, manage pests with less chemical reliance, and much more.  You’ll learn about the newest technologies and meet farmers who have successfully made the transition.  29 minutes.

TAKING GOOD SOIL SAMPLES AND INTERPRETING THE RESULTS
SIR290 Video
The video provides an easy to follow guide to taking soil samples.  18 minutes.

TOPSOIL AND VEGETATION
SIR296 Video
This film shows how topsoil is formed and how arable land is created after glaciation.  It stresses that the world’s cultivable land is in short supply, and that what there is should be treated more carefully.  9 minutes.

USING PHYSICAL GROUNDWATER FLOW MODELS FOR DEMONSTRATIONS
SIR303 Video
This video provides demonstrations of physical groundwater flow models.  These models can be used to demonstrate groundwater contamination, processes and controls.
