LINEAR CLASSIFICATION OF DAIRY CATTLE

Linear evaluation of dairy cattle allows producers to improve lifetime production, increase the number of profitable lactations, reduce the number of herd replacements, and experience more real profit from their dairy operation.  This video presentation includes instruction in identifying the parts of a cow, the 15 primary descriptive linear traits (stature, strength, body depth, dairy form, rump angle, thurl width, rear legs, foot angle, fore udder attachment, real udder width and height, udder depth and cleft, teat placement, and length), and two sample cow classifications.  The classification instruction, which features two sample evaluations, is preceded by a helpful review of dairy cattle parts.  It includes primary descriptive trait standards as illustrated in the Holstein Association Linear Classification Handbook, which is supplied with the videotape.  38 minutes.
